Experience the Adirondacks at their finest during Fall Break. Encounter first hand what makes this place so spectacular: magnificent mountain landscapes scattered with changing fall colors, numerous lakes and waterways to paddle, starry skies to camp out under and the call of loons as they echo across the lakes. Your instructors will teach you the skills you will need to have an enjoyable canoe camping experience including paddling technique, portaging (carrying boats & gear between lakes), navigation, backcountry cooking, and various other canoe camping skills.

When Offered Fall.

Fees Course fee: $445 for instruction/travel and food. All paddling equipment and basic camping gear will be either included in price or available to rent discounted from Cornell Outdoor Education. Prerequisites/Corequisites Prerequisite: recreational swimmer.

Satisfies Requirement Satisfies one PE requirement if taken as PE. First class is required, students must attend all classes to receive PE credit.

  • Instruction Mode: In Person
    Course fee: $445. The first class meeting will be held on campus in Bartels Hall, room B01. Following classes will first meet at Bartels Hall and then travel to other areas around Ithaca, New York. Transportation is provided for off campus classes. Prerequisite: comfortable recreational swimmer.
    Drop Deadline: Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Students will be responsible for the course fee and assessed a $50 late drop fee if they do not drop by the deadline.   • Instruction Mode: In Person
    The last class will first meet at Bartels Hall and then head out at 4pm on Friday to the Adirondacks (Saranac Lake, New York) for the long weekend break (10/11/2024-10/15/2024). The trip returns at ~6pm Tuesday.
